Description
Pestrol Solar Panel Guard Kit – 30m
Large Solar Panel Bird & Rodent Protection Kit
The Pestrol Solar Panel Guard Kit – 30m provides a durable physical barrier around roof-mounted solar panels, helping prevent birds, rats, mice and other unwanted animals from gaining access underneath the solar array.
Designed for larger residential solar systems, extensive arrays and commercial installations, the 30m kit includes a generous 30-metre roll of 21cm-wide galvanised and UV PVC-coated welded wire mesh, along with 100 commercial-grade fasteners.
The mesh closes the accessible gap between the solar-panel frame and roof, helping prevent birds from nesting beneath panels, rodents from reaching exposed wiring, and larger debris such as leaves and twigs from accumulating underneath the array.
The system attaches directly to the solar-panel frame using purpose-designed fasteners, avoiding the need to drill into the solar panels. The latest version also features a smaller locking nut for a cleaner, more discreet finished installation.

Why Protect the Area Under Your Solar Panels?
The sheltered gap between solar panels and the roof can provide an attractive location for unwanted animals.
Birds may use the space for roosting and nesting, while rats and mice can take advantage of the protected environment for shelter and movement around the roof.
Once animals establish themselves underneath an array, problems can include:
- Bird nests
- Droppings
- Feathers
- Twigs and nesting material
- Rodent activity
- Chewed or damaged wiring
- Leaves and other wind-blown debris
- Increased cleaning and maintenance requirements
- Restricted airflow caused by accumulated material
The Pestrol Solar Panel Guard Kit provides a straightforward solution by physically restricting access to the space beneath the panels.
Physical Protection Rather Than Repellence
Unlike sound, scent or visual deterrents, the Solar Panel Guard Kit works through physical exclusion.
Once the mesh is correctly installed around the accessible perimeter of the solar array, birds and rodents are prevented from simply moving through the gap between the panel and roof.
This makes the system particularly useful for long-term solar-panel protection.
There are:
- No batteries to replace
- No electrical components
- No poison or bait
- No operating settings
- No ongoing activation required
The effectiveness of the system instead depends on creating a secure and continuous physical barrier.
Helps Stop Birds Nesting Beneath Solar Panels
Solar panels can provide birds with exactly the type of sheltered location they look for when choosing somewhere to nest or roost.
Once birds begin using the area, nesting materials and droppings can accumulate beneath and around the array.
The 21cm mesh closes the exposed perimeter gap while still allowing airflow through the wire construction.
For the best protection, the complete accessible perimeter should be covered without leaving openings at corners, joins or changes in roof profile.
Helps Protect Wiring from Rats & Mice
Rodents can cause expensive problems when they gain access to electrical installations.
Rats and mice regularly gnaw materials in their environment, meaning accessible cables underneath solar panels can potentially be damaged.
Possible consequences include:
- Damaged cable insulation
- Electrical faults
- Reduced solar-system performance
- Increased servicing requirements
- Costly repairs
Rather than attempting to control rodents once they’re underneath the panels, the Solar Panel Guard helps prevent access to the protected space in the first place.
Helps Keep Leaves & Debris Out
Birds and rodents aren’t the only things that can accumulate underneath an unprotected solar array.
Wind can carry:
- Leaves
- Twigs
- Plant material
- Nesting debris
- Other larger debris
into the gap beneath the panels.
The wire mesh helps block larger debris while its open construction continues to allow air movement around the solar array.
30 Metres of Solar Panel Mesh
This larger kit includes a 30m continuous roll of mesh, making it a better choice for properties with extensive solar installations.
The mesh measures:
30m long × 21cm wide
Before ordering, measure the exposed outside perimeter of the solar-panel array rather than simply measuring the roof or total panel area.
Remember to allow additional mesh for:
- Overlapping joins
- Corners
- Irregular roof profiles
- Additional sections needed to close gaps
If your measurement is close to 30m, allowing some extra material is preferable to running short during installation.
100 Commercial-Grade Fasteners Included
The 30m kit includes 100 fasteners, compared with 35 in the smaller 10m kit.
The recommended installation spacing is approximately every 30–40cm along the solar-panel frame.
The large fastener quantity makes this kit suitable for protecting a considerably greater perimeter while maintaining regular fastening points throughout the installation.
Additional attention may be required around corners and unusual sections of the array.
New Smaller Locking Nut
The latest version of the Solar Panel Guard Kit features a smaller locking nut.
The reduced size creates a more discreet fastening point once installed, helping the completed mesh barrier sit more neatly around the perimeter of the panels.
This is particularly useful on larger installations where many individual fasteners may be visible.
21cm-Wide Flexible Mesh
The mesh is approximately 21cm wide, allowing it to bridge the space between the solar-panel frame and roof surface.
The lower portion can be allowed to flare outward and curve against the roof profile, helping close the gap at roof level.
This flexibility is important because roof surfaces and solar-panel installations aren’t always perfectly uniform.
During installation, make sure the mesh follows the roof closely enough that birds or rodents cannot simply push underneath it.
Galvanised & UV PVC-Coated Wire Mesh
The welded wire mesh combines:
Galvanised wire construction with a UV-resistant PVC coating.
This provides a durable barrier designed for long-term exposure in outdoor rooftop environments.
The coated finish also gives the installed barrier a neater appearance around the solar-panel array.
No Drilling Into Your Solar Panels
The Pestrol Solar Panel Guard Kit uses purpose-designed fasteners that attach to the solar-panel frame.
This means there is no need to drill directly into the solar panel to secure the mesh.
Avoiding unnecessary drilling or permanent panel modification is an important advantage of this type of installation.
Solar-panel designs and manufacturer warranty conditions vary, however, so always check the requirements for your particular solar system before installing aftermarket accessories.

Solar Panel Mesh Installation Guide
1. Measure the Solar Array
Measure the exposed outside perimeter requiring protection.
Allow extra mesh for approximately 10cm overlaps, corners and any irregular sections of the installation.
2. Install the Fasteners
- Position the supplied clips along the underside of the solar-panel frame at approximately 30–40cm intervals.
- Ensure each clip is correctly attached before fitting the mesh.
3. Cut the Mesh Into Manageable Lengths
- For easier handling on the roof, the mesh can be cut into approximately 2m sections where appropriate.
- Wear protective gloves when handling and cutting wire mesh.
4. Position the Mesh
- Place the mesh around the outside edge of the solar array.
- Position the fastening rod upwards so it maintains downward pressure on the mesh.
- Allow the bottom section of mesh to flare outward and follow the roof surface, creating a barrier between the panel frame and roof.
5. Secure the Mesh
- Attach the locking washer and push it firmly into position to secure the mesh.
- Check that the mesh remains firmly positioned against the roof and panel perimeter.
6. Join Mesh Sections
- Where two sections meet, overlap them by approximately 10cm.
- Secure the overlapping pieces together using suitable cable ties.
- Avoid leaving openings between individual mesh sections.
7. Form Outer Corners
For an outer corner:
- Cut upwards through the mesh from the bottom towards the bend point.
- Shape the mesh around the corner.
- Inspect for any resulting gaps.
- Cut an additional piece of mesh if required.
- Secure the additional piece using cable ties.
8. Form Inner Corners
For an inner corner:
- Cut upwards from the bottom of the mesh to the required bend point.
- Shape the mesh into the corner.
- Overlap sections as necessary.
- Secure overlapping mesh with cable ties.
9. Inspect the Entire Installation
Once finished, inspect the complete perimeter.
Pay particular attention to:
- Corners
- Joins
- Changes in roof height or profile
- Loose fasteners
- Gaps underneath the mesh
- Gaps between mesh sections
Even a small opening may provide a potential entry point, so the aim is to create a continuous barrier around every accessible section of the solar array.

Roof & Installation Safety
The mesh system itself is relatively straightforward to install, but working on a roof presents serious fall and electrical hazards.
Professional installation is recommended where appropriate.
Do not attempt installation if you cannot safely access the solar array, particularly on:
- High roofs
- Steeply pitched roofs
- Wet or slippery roofs
- Difficult-to-access installations
Use suitable safety equipment and follow applicable working-at-height and electrical safety requirements.
Solar panels and associated wiring should also be treated as live electrical equipment where applicable.
